How Does HexClad Stand Up Against Trending Ceramic Cookware? Let's Find Out.

Curious if ceramic really lives up to the hype?
Wondering what type of cookware is worth the investment?

If you’re looking for cookware that’s:

  • Extremely durable
  • Nontoxic, nonstick surface
  • Easy to clean
  • Oven safe (above 350 degrees)
  • Metal utensil safe
  • Long-lasting
  • Chef recommended
  • Properly sears & caramelizes
  • Backed by a lifetime warranty

We’re here to help. We went through some of the most important features when it comes to cookware, comparing the trendy, rainbow colored ceramic pans to HexClad’s hybrid cookware to help you decide what’s best for you.

Here’s how the two stack up:

Best Cooking Surface?

The convenience factor of nonstick is hard to beat when it comes to cookware - it provides stress-free cleanup and the ability to toss and turn ingredients in the pan with ease. While both HexClad and ceramic pans boast nonstick capabilities, only one provides a proper golden-brown sear with a nonstick surface.

Thanks to the tiny hexagons laser etched across HexClad's surface, it’s the only cookware to combine nonstick and stainless steel into the SAME surface, give you an amazing sear without sacrificing the convenience of nonstick. So instead of a vast collection of unused stainless steel, cast iron, and nonstick pans, HexClad does the job of all three at once - giving you the versatility to conquer any dish with ease. HexClad’s patented hybrid surface is free of harsh chemicals and far tougher than other nonstick cookware. An easy win for HexClad.

Longer Lasting?

If you’re familiar with ceramic cookware, you’ve probably noticed that after a year it will have lost some (if not all) of its nonstick surface. This year-long lifespan can shorten significantly if not treated with the proper care. Ceramic’s delicate surface can be easily stained, scratched, and chipped, and typically comes without any sort of warranty. Coming in with a hefty price tag, they’re simply not a worthwhile investment if you’re searching for cookware that lasts.

Ceramic lifespan: about 1 year. 😟

The hexagon pattern you see across HexClad’s surface is made of raised stainless steel “peaks” that work to protect the nonstick “valleys” between them, allowing each pan to preserve its nonstick surface. This durability allows for metal utensils to be used across the surface to scrape, whisk and flip ingredients directly in the pan. Better yet, HexClad offers a lifetime warranty on all of its cookware, making them a sound investment if you’re looking for a set to be with you for the long haul.

HexClad lifespan: a lifetime. 🏆

Raving Reviews?

At the beginning of the ceramic cookware craze, the colorful pans received rave reviews. They were being used by dozens of influencers and were brightening up Instagram feeds with picture-perfect creations. After a few months, the tone began to change as purchasers realized the short lifespan of the non-stick coating and how easily they scratched and chipped with no chance at redemption. While initial reviews lean positive, it’s the later reviews, after a few months of use, that show us ceramic’s true colors.

What reviewers are saying about ceramic cookware:

“Cute”
“Gimmicky”
“Not for real cooks”
“Lasted 6 months”

Paging through HexClads’ 12,000+ reviews, there seem to be some common themes - users rave about its even heat distribution, solid construction, and how the cookware cleans up with ease. Dozens of reviewers make a note of coming back for another purchase after falling in love with their first or returning to make a second purchase for family or friends. Better yet, many customers claim that its nonstick surface only continued to get better with age. Loved by chefs and home cooks alike, it's clear that HexClad’s hybrid cookware holds true to its hype.

What reviewers are saying about HexClad cookware:

“Durable”
“High-quality”
“Retains heat”
“Easy to clean”
“Sexy”

Most Durable?

Due to the delicate nature of ceramic pans, many boxes go unchecked when it comes to durability. Their rough ceramic surface is prone to scuffs and scratches that can critically damage its nonstick coating. It's recommended to only cook with ceramic on low heat, handwash with a bit of mild soap, and avoid metal utensils altogether. Most ceramic pans are not safe for oven use above 350 degrees F and are prone to warping from high temperatures. Because of this, many ceramic pans end up being thrown out far sooner than expected."

On the contrary, durability tends to be a major selling point of HexClad cookware. Because of its hybrid technology and clad style design, its construction is far more durable than other nonstick pans - they’re oven-safe up to 500 degrees F, dishwasher safe for easy cleanup, and tough enough to withstand the use of metal utensils across the surface. With this added durability and significantly longer lifespan, a high quality set of HexClad cookware is sure to save you loads of money in the long run.

Chef Recommended?

When it comes to professional use, chefs require cookware that can offer a wide range of versatility and toughness to survive a rigorous workload. While ceramic pans fare well with light use, they simply don’t have the stamina to perform well at a professional level. Their lack of durability, overall short lifespan, and expensive price tags leave them ill-equipped for life in the kitchen.

With its hybrid surface and high-quality construction, HexClad is the perfect match for both the professional kitchen and at home and is favored by Michelin star chefs around the globe. Coined the “Rolls Royce of pans” by Chef Gordon Ramsay, it’s clear that HexClad has earned his stamp of approval and lives up to the standard of even the most experienced chefs.

Outstanding Cookware!

By far one of the best sets we've owned. We have tried several different high end lines. The HexClad line has quickly become our go to cookware. This is a nicely well-made pan, with a moderate weight-to-pan ratio. The cleaning is little to no effort. We absolutely love them.

BEST COOKWARE

I have several selections of pots and pans. These are the best pans ever used. I bought the starter pack before I made the investment. For me this was the best decision to make. It can be used by any metal tool and not hurt the pan. It cooks the food at an even temp. I will be buying more.

Great pan for life!

This is the best pan ever. I bought the 8 inch for my boyfriend. I loved it so much I bought myself the 12 inch. I'm always worried that I'll scratch it and it won't be nonstick anymore but you just can't ruin it. It's perfect every time.
